Chiropractic FCPs

Musculoskeletal (MSK) First Contact Practitioners (FCPs) are advanced physical therapists working in GP surgeries. They bring enhanced skills in the diagnosis and management largely of painful muscle, joint or spinal problems to the practices.

FCPs have been shown to improve patients outcomes and reduce prescription medication and the need for referral to hospital services.

This Chiropractic Research Council funded project based at the Center for Primary Care and Population Science at the University of Southampton is exploring how well chiropractors can fulfil these roles.

Exploring the impact of chiropractors in First Contact Practitioner roles within NHS GP practices

Project to validate and understand the responsiveness of the MSK-HQ in private community MSK services.

MSK-HQ in private community practice

The MSK-HQ is a questionnaire developed at Keele University on behalf of the NHS and Versus Arthritis in hospital and primary care settings. It is designed to assess the health related quality of life of people with muscle, joint or spinal problems. It can be used too see how well patients do with care.

Funded by the Royal College of Chiropractors, we are looking to see how well the MSK-HQ works (validity, responsiveness and acceptability) in private community MSK services.

BACE-C UK

As the UK arm of an international program (UK, Holland, Sweden, Australia and Canada) the Back Care in the Elderly study (BACE-UK) is looking to understand more about spinal pain in those aged over 55 and what influences their response to chiropractic care.

Patients through the UK are being asked to complete a series of questionnaires and respond to text messages over a 12 month period. UK funding: Chiropractic Research Council

BACE-C UK project to understand back care in elderly patients

My first attempt at a video discussing one of our research project. The information is solid but the presentation isn't!.

Remote Chiropractic Consultations

The COVID-19 pandemic closed UK chiropractic to face to face care and many services started offering remote consultations (RCs) as a way to continue to support their patients.

In the absence of any published research a project was instigated to understand the views and experiences of chiropractors who chose either to or not to provide RCs. With a second project exploring patients experiences with a focus on the relationship between them and their chiropractors when having RCs.
