Education
It is expected that senior clinicians working to an advanced level will be involved in using their knowledge and skills to help develop others both within their direct teams as well as regionally and nationally.
Jonathan has been involved in chiropractic education since 1997 when he was the lead chiropractic lecturer for the degree program at the University of Glamorgan. He has served as National Director of Continuing Professional Development for the Royal College of Chiropractors and for 7 years from 2008 he ran mandatory day training in managing spinal pain for General Practitioner Trainees through the Wessex Deanery.
As clinical lead for a NHS community spinal service in Hampshire Jonathan has responsibility for the standards and development of this service. Through this he has been involved with North Hampshire CCG in the redesign of their MSK and pain service provision.
Shortly after the beginning of the COVID-19 restrictions Jonathan established a forum for chiropractors looking to explore the use of remote consultations as a way to continue to support their patients when face to face consultations were not possible. In addition to online discussions this also involved weekly webinars where he chaired presentations and discussions to further understand the practical issues and different skills clinicians need to adopt when making use of the new technology with patients.
Post Registration Training
Chiropractors graduate after typically 4 years university study with a good grounding in academic and clinical skills and they will have a years experience working in a supervised clinic setting.
As a Post Registration Training Trainer Jonathan helps as an experienced mentor, working with new graduates in their first year building their skills and confidence.
Research degree supervision
Working with teams of co-supervisors to develop the next generation of researchers through their PhD programs.
In addition to this formal training Jonathan takes an active interest in supporting and advising clinicians interested in developing a career in clinical research particularly within the UK chiropractic profession.
Lecturing
Jonathan is a sought after speaker presenting internationally on the use of patients reports of their progress to improve care and the Care Response ePROM system he has developed to help clinics collect and report this information.
He has also recently lectured on the introduction of chiropractic into NHS GP practices, new guidelines for identification and management of Cauda Equina Syndrome and the use of remote consultations by chiropractors.
